Belturbet Community Allotments

Belturbet Community Allotments are getting ready for Spring. With new raised beds in their second poly tunnel, improved access for people with disabilities and an improved composting area part of the plans for 2026.

Cavan County Local Development has provided advice, guidance, training and research into the practicalities of setting up and running Community Allotments from the inception of the project which is managed and overseen by Belturbet Community Development Association (BCDA).


A number of small grants from SICAP, Cavan County Local Development's social inclusion programme, have made it possible to further develop the site with more allotments, poly tunnels and composting facility.


There are now 16 allotments used by local residents, community groups and local schools


and is a great example of what can be achieved from small beginnings and has seen the Community Allotments blossom into a vibrant community orientated environmental project.

The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) is co-funded by the Irish Government, through the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, and the European Social Fund Plus under the Employment, Inclusion, Skills and Training (EIST) Programme 2021 -2027.
