Rural Recreation Programme

The Rural Recreation Programme (RRP) is delivered by Cavan County Local Development and supports outdoor recreation across County Cavan.

 

The programme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, with support from Fáilte Ireland.

 

It supports communities and landowners in maintaining walking routes, including the Walks Scheme and key trails across the county.

About

The Rural Recreation Programme supports the development, maintenance and promotion of outdoor recreation opportunities across County Cavan, working with communities, landowners and local partners.

 

Cavan County Local Development administers the Walks Scheme on behalf of the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht. The scheme supports private landowners in maintaining approved walking routes through their lands.

 

In County Cavan, the scheme includes The Cavan Way, The Moyar Loop and Bruse Hill Walking Trail. The programme also supports the development of new trails, assists with ORIS funding, and promotes responsible use of the countryside.

The Cavan Way

The Cavan Way is a long-distance walking route that showcases the natural beauty of County Cavan, passing through a range of landscapes including forests, farmland and quiet rural roads.

Bruce hill

Bruse Hill Trail

Bruse Hill Trail is a scenic looped walk offering views of the surrounding countryside. It provides a peaceful walking experience and is suitable for a range of abilities.

The Moyar Loop Trail is a rural walking route that takes in open landscapes and quiet surroundings, offering an accessible and enjoyable walking experience for all abilities while showcasing the natural beauty of the local countryside.
