The West Cavan Camino was established in February 2025 as a rural community initiative by the people of Glangevlin and the Glangevlin Development Committee.

From the beginning, the aim was clear: to create something meaningful for visitors while also delivering real benefits locally, supporting businesses, strengthening community pride, and encouraging sustainable tourism that protects what makes this region so special.

With significant support from Cavan County Local Community Development and with guidance from expert consultants in sustainable green tourism for rural areas, a comprehensive Glangevlin Development Plan was created. The West Cavan Camino emerged as one of the plan's key pillars, not as a standalone attraction, but as part of a wider vision for the future of the area.

This is what makes the West Cavan Camino different. It isn't a commercial product dropped onto a landscape. It's a project shaped by the people who live here, people who know the history, the routes, the seasons, the folklore, and the quiet beauty that can't be faked.
