On 9 July 2024, Cavan County Local Development (CCLD) was delighted to be part of a truly special cultural moment, when the story of St Brigid was brought to life through a powerful and creative workshop led by the wonderful artist Morag Donald.
The workshop explored the legend of St Brigid not just as a story from our shared heritage, but as a living tradition — one that connects people through craft, storytelling and collective creativity. Participants experienced first-hand the power of making, learning how craft can be a meaningful way to share identity, history and belonging.
This event was particularly significant for members of the Ukrainian community, who took great pride in contributing to the St Brigid’s Cloak project. Their involvement highlighted the strength of cultural exchange and the importance of creating inclusive spaces where new and long-established communities can connect, collaborate and celebrate together.
The workshop was both enjoyable and deeply memorable, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved. Today, the St Brigid’s Cloak stands as a symbol of unity, creativity and shared values, and can now be viewed in its forever home at Cavan County Museum.
CCLD is proud to support initiatives that foster social inclusion, community integration and cultural participation, and we look back on this event as a wonderful example of how creativity can bring communities together.
