Creative Pathways: Long-Term Art Project for People with Disabilities

Since 2017, Cavan County Local Development (CCLD), in partnership with the HSE Day Centres in Cavan and Virginia, has been running an innovative art project for people with severe and multiple disabilities.

This year’s project began on Wednesday, 27th August 2025, and thanks to the support of Creative Ireland and SICAP, it will continue through to September 2026. The multi-year commitment ensures that participants not only have continuity, but also the time and space to truly grow as artists.

With the expert guidance of arts therapy facilitator Carolann Farrelly, participants are achieving remarkable progress in their personal development and creative expression. Improvements in health, dexterity, understanding of colour, and art processes are being celebrated each week.

Beyond the measurable goals, the joy, enthusiasm, and confidence displayed by participants highlight the deeper impact of the programme. Each session is a step towards another inspiring public exhibition planned for 2026, where the community will have the opportunity to witness and celebrate the achievements of these talented artists.

At CCLD, we are proud to support initiatives that not only foster inclusion but also provide meaningful opportunities for creativity, growth, and community connection.
