The Dowra Men’s Shed is more than a meeting place—it’s a hub of skills, stories, and community spirit. Thanks to the ongoing administrative and mentoring support provided by SICAP through CCLD.ie, the group is able to focus on what they do best: hands-on projects that make a real difference locally.
One of their current projects is the restoration of an iron gate believed to be around 165 years old from the old Doobally Graveyard. This historic gate, damaged during Storm Éowyn, is being carefully brought back to life by the Shed members. Alongside this, the men have also dedicated their time to clearing debris from the graveyard, ensuring it remains a respectful and cared-for place for the community.
But the work of the Shed https://www.ccld.ieis about much more than tools and projects. Every Thursday evening from 8–10pm, the men gather in Doobally Hall—a space filled with laughter, conversation, and of course, a cup of tea. Anyone interested in joining is warmly invited to drop by for an informal visit, to meet the group, and to see what the Men’s Shed is all about.
These activities are supported by years of commitment and partnership through SICAP and CCLD.ie, ensuring that groups like the Dowra Men’s Shed continue to thrive. It’s a powerful example of how small, local initiatives can protect our heritage, strengthen friendships, and build a stronger sense of community for everyone.
