This four-part workshop series is designed to support individuals and families from seed to harvest, using a square foot gardening approach that is practical, manageable and accessible to all levels of experience.
Learn by Doing
Taking place at the demonstration growing space in Daisy Hill House & Gardens, Ballyconnell, participants will work directly with established raised beds, developing hands-on skills and confidence throughout the growing season.
Whether you are completely new to gardening or looking to expand your knowledge, this programme provides a welcoming space to:
Build practical growing skills
Increase confidence in food production
Connect with others interested in local food and sustainable living
Take meaningful climate action at community level
Workshop Dates (2pm–4pm)
25 March 2026 – Preparing the growing space & sowing seeds
22 April 2026 – Marking out the square foot grid, planting out seedlings & direct sowing
27 May 2026 – Raised bed maintenance, harvesting & replanting
24 June 2026 – Main harvest, crop rotation, fertilisation, ongoing maintenance & future planning
Field Trips Included
The programme also includes two valuable learning visits:
A midweek case study visit to Bailieborough’s New ‘Smart’ Community Garden
A final visit to Fermagh Organic Farm & Market Garden, providing real-world insight into community and organic food growing (venue confirmation to follow)
These visits will deepen participants’ understanding of sustainable growing systems and highlight the positive impact of community-led climate action.

This opportunity is open to everyone in the community. By equipping people with practical food-growing skills, we are supporting climate resilience, reducing food miles, and strengthening local networks.
