At a time when communities across Ireland continue to demonstrate compassion and solidarity, the coming days offer two meaningful opportunities for us to stand together. As we mark the 4th Anniversary of the War in Ukraine, CCLD is honoured to support events that bring people together in unity, remembrance, and hope.
These gatherings in Cavan and Virginia are moments for the public to reflect on the ongoing impact of the conflict, acknowledge the strength of those displaced, and reaffirm our collective commitment to peace and community wellbeing.
For service users, they represent a safe and supportive space to connect with others.
For funding organisations, they highlight the continued value of community‑led responses.
For the media, they offer a newsworthy reflection of solidarity at local level.
Event 1: An Evening of Unity, Remembrance, and Hope – Cavan
Date: Sunday, 22 February
Time: 16:00
Location: 33 Bridge Street, Lurganboy, Cavan, H12 RW77
Hosted under the theme “Unbroken in Spirit. United in Strength.”, this evening gathering brings people of all backgrounds together to remember lives impacted by the war, honour resilience, and stand with those seeking peace and stability today.
The event invites everyone to come as they are – individuals, families, neighbours – and join in a shared message:
Together, we are strong. Together, we are unbroken.

Event 2: Candlelight Vigil for Ukraine – Virginia
Date: Monday, 23 February
Time: 18:00
Location: Square near the bus stop, Virginia
Organised by: Women Without Borders
This candlelight vigil offers a powerful moment of reflection in the heart of Virginia.
Participants are invited to bring a candle and join a quiet, meaningful gathering to:
Honour the fallen
Pray for peace
Remind the world that the conflict remains ongoing
The imagery of light in darkness continues to resonate strongly with communities who welcome, support, and stand beside Ukrainian families now living in Ireland.

Why These Events Matter
Across Cavan and Monaghan, CCLD supports individuals and communities who have been affected by the war through education, social inclusion, and community‑building programmes. These events demonstrate the strength of collaboration between local groups, volunteers, and partner organisations.
They also reflect the ongoing commitment of national funding programmes that enable communities to respond with compassion, structure, and sustainability.
CCLD encourages everyone—local residents, community partners, media, and members of the Ukrainian community—to join us over the coming days as we stand together in remembrance and hope.
