Vyshyvanka Day: Embroidering Ukrainian Pride and Culture

Vyshyvanka Day is a celebration of Ukrainian identity and beauty:

Every year on the third Thursday of May, Ukrainians celebrate Vyshyvanka Day, a holiday that not only unites the nation but also reminds the world of the uniqueness of Ukrainian culture. It is a day when embroidered shirts become a symbol of pride, strength, freedom, and indomitability. They embody our history, the memory of our ancestors, and the soul of our people.

The embroidered shirt is not just clothing, it is DNA encoded in patterns, colors, and techniques passed down from generation to generation.

Last Thursday 15th May, 2025 on the shores of Lough Ramor the Women with Borders Group celebrated this day with the wider community. There were children's games, arts, crafts, food and fun. The event was organised in conjunction with Cavan County Local Development as part of Local Development Week.

“The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) is co-funded by the Irish Government, through the Department of Rural and Community Development, and the European Union through the European Social Fund Plus under the Employment, Inclusion, Skills and Training (EIST) Programme 2021- 2027.”
