Woodcarving classes in Dowra and Belturbet this July are bringing opportunities to people in rural and disadvantaged communities (as defined by the Pobal Deprivation Maps) to learn tradition skills, many for the first time, in a friendly and encouraging environment.
The summer school has also sought to engage 18-25 year-olds as a target group alongside other adults.
Under the guidance of tutor Joey Burns, participants are creating woodcarvings of quality and the goal of the summer school is to teach skills that can be nurtured and developed long term.
The summer school is hosted by Dowra Mens Shed and Belturbet Mens Shed and has been organised by Sandy Holland of CCLD's social inclusion programme SICAP with funding from CMETB's REACH Programme
