Cavan Communities 4 Climate Action - The Climate Is Changing, Will You?

Cavan County Local Development (CCLD) are committed to helping transition Cavan to a low carbon, climate resilient and environmentally sustainable county. To achieve this, we are currently delivering our free climate action training programme, Cavan Communities 4 Climate Action to Cavan communities and local enterprises. Our third course starts on the 30th of April 2022. REGISTER HERE.

We have already delivered two of the three training courses. The first, due to COVID-19 was delivered in 2020 using Zoom with the second delivered last autumn, “face to face” at the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Cavan Town.

“This was an extremely interesting, inspiring and enlightening course which left me with a much more enhanced awareness of climate action within my local community!”

This free six week course covers a range of topics including climate action, community resilience, energy and transport, climate change and water, sustainable agriculture and land use and waste and the circular economy. Both courses have been very well received by participants with nearly 50 people having now completed the training.

The highlight of the course is a day trip to Cloughjordan Ecovillage, County Tipperary. Cloughjordan is an internationally recognised destination for learning about sustainable living and climate action. The ecovillage is located on a 70 acre site with over 100 residents living in more than 50 high-performance green homes, 20,000 newly planted trees, a community farm and gardens, an enterprise centre, outdoor music and culture venue plus Ireland's largest renewable energy district heating system.

“Seeing all that the ecovillage has to offer was inspiring. Cloughjordan is driving climate action and pushing boundaries....that's a lesson in resilience to the rest of us. We'll done to you all, your work and creativity is just amazing.”

CCLD believe this course will improve climate literacy and understanding of climate action in the county. Already the course is building a network of Cavan citizens interested in local climate action and we want to build on this success through our third course which starts in person on the 30th of April.

“I would highly recommend the whole course; it isn’t too long; not too much lecturing, great in class discussions; highly informative ! ”
